Learning opportunity for parents in Fraser Cascade

Fraser Cascade parents are being invited to take part in a learning opportunity this week.

The school district is holding a Native Education Learning Activity Day on Friday, Feb. 15 at Hope secondary school. The event will bring teachers and parents together in education.

There is no cost to register, and a bus will take parents (and their children) from Agassiz elementary secondary school to HSS, leaving at 7:45 a.m. and returning at 4 p.m. Pickup and drop off will also be available on Seabird Island.

Childcare is available, and lunch will be available for sale at the school. The lunch is being prepared by HSS home economics students, and will be sold for $8 a plate.

Sessions available to take in on Friday include Math in the Real World, Sto:lo History and Culture, Technology and Teaching, a Cedar Kit Workshop, Indiginizing Social Studies, Photography, Red Cross Emergency First Aid, and many more.

There will also be a Thursday evening session, Anxiety: A Practical Approach to Helping our Children, Youth and Ourselves, presented by Jim Skinner.

The keynote address will be delivered by Nathan Matthew, executive director of Aboriginal Education at Thompson Rivers University in Kamloops.
