Museum looking for volunteer force

Spring is in the air and this means the Agassiz Harrison Museum and Visitor Information Centre is gearing up for the opening season.  They are on the lookout for some fabulous and valuable volunteers to help keep the centre operating.

Judy Pickard said that their ideal volunteers love their community, but also enjoy meeting people from all over the world. They have to be able to give three hours a week for their shifts, she added. Shifts are three hours long and two people are needed for each shift. Each week, they use the help of 26 volunteers.

It's a perfect opportunity for people who are new to the community to get out meet new people, Pickard said.

There are plenty of tasks to be done throughout the seven day week at the centre, and the long time staff and volunteers always train the newcomers.

The benefits to volunteers are countless, she said. But they include a chance to showcase your community, learn even more about the area and its history, and working alongside others who love the community

The Agassiz Harrison Museum and Visitor Information Centre is open from May to October, seven days a week from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Extras volunteers are needed to fill positions throughout the season when regulars are unable to cover their shifts.

If you're interested in returning this year, or starting anew, join the staff for a Meet and Greet at the museum on Tuesday, May 13 at 2 p.m., or call 604-796-3545, or email agassizharrisonmuseum@shawbiz.ca.
