Agassiz All Storage demonstrated their support to the the youth of Agassiz and Harrison Hot Springs with the presentation of a rather large cheque to Agassiz-Harrison Community Services.

“This donation represents Agassiz All Storage’s annual commitment to the youth of Agassiz and Harrison Hot Springs. Our financial support goes towards youth inclusion summer programs,” said Sabine Keil, co-owner of Agassiz All Storage.

The cheque was for the amount of $1,320. Youth programs are a large part of what AHCS does for the community and keeping the kids occupied over the summer months is an important task for the organization.

“The summer program has 50 children who take part and we do three day trips a week and there’s so much to do and see and learn just between Hope and Chilliwack so our outtrips do a combination of cultural, educational, and recreational activities,” said AHCS Community Services Executive Director Bobbi Jacob.

The funds will go a long way to secure the van to transport the kids as well as providing lunches and contributing to three overnight camping trips for the three different age groups who make use of the programs.

The youth age groups range from 7 to 12, 13 to 15, and 15 to 17, and the entire community is welcome and encouraged to join up for an exciting summer of exploration and outdoor adventure.

“There’s a lot to do in these communities and there’s a lot to have fun with and I think some kids are at a bit of a loose end, especially as summer goes on and they’ve done a lot of things with their parents and families and they’re looking to reconnect with their friends and school friends. Maybe it feels more like an adventure when it’s with people that you don’t live with and there’s some places that we go that the kids have never been to,” said Jacob.

Learning is a big part of AHCS’s summer philosophy, whether it be nature, or interpretive experiences or learning how to paddleboard.

“We offer the kids a variety of things and they’re also expected to help for certain things especially for camping and they have to help set up tents and be responsible for their own things and understand they’re sharing a tent with someone and take part of food preparation and food clean-up. We really want all the kids who live here to have the opportunity to do something with us and we would just encourage parents to call us and find out where we’re going, when we’re going and whether they have to register their child.

If you are interested in registering your child in a summer youth program, or are a youth interested in joining one of the programs please contact the Youth Centre at 604-796-2585.
