The driving initiative the community has been waiting for is here with the arrival of The Drive4U program. The program provided by Agassiz-Harrison Community Services will fill the void in transportation needs for members who have registered. Drive4U was created in response to the closing of the original community drivers program.

While trips for medical appointments are the priority, the program will also provide trips for grocery shopping, or social events when drivers are available.

Members who have registered with the community and meet the eligibility guidelines will be able to receive the service. Volunteer drivers provide door-to-door service and request at least three business days notice prior to booking an appointment.

Calls will be returned when received after hours, on weekends, and statutory holidays on the next business day. Though it is a volunteer service, a minimal fee will be charged to clients, this includes a fee per kilometre as well as any parking fees or bridge tolls.

Services can only be scheduled on days and times that volunteer drivers are available.

The Community Drivers are all good-hearted volunteers registered with AHCS and are dedicated to providing a safe and caring service; men and women who enjoy driving and interacting with people will greet passengers behind the wheel as they drive them to and from appointments.

Passengers can feel safe with their drivers as they are required to have a current criminal record check and drivers abstract on file with Agassiz-Harrison Community Services. Drivers also use their own vehicles to transport community members and are reimbursed for mileage. To volunteer for this program contact Agassiz-Harrison Community Services at 604-796-2585.
