Agassiz-Harrison Community Services hosted its Speaker’ Series on Backyard Birding by Janne Perrin at the Agassiz Legion on Thursday.

Perrin went over a host of tips and tricks to the trade as well as listing the most important one: hours of fun. Backyard birders can expect to expose themselves to hours of glorious bird watching with a variety of species according to Perrin, the environmental activist, who also heads up The Miami River Streamkeepers Society.

Conservation, creating habitat, and pests and predators were among some of the important items Perrin listed in backyard birding.

The hobby also attracts different birds depending on the season with a variety of spring, summer and winter birds who will flock to a shelter or nest box.

Bear challenges are also important to be careful of as they are attracted to bird feed, and of course community cats will naturally be attracted to the birds; whether they be a Common Redpoll, Blackbird, or Pigeon.
