The Agassiz Harrison Community Services has been presenting its Speakers’ Series, a series aimed at providing quality, and informative presentations on a variety of topics in the community.

Of the speakers that have presented, Karen Bunner has presented on the topic of recognizing and responding to elder abuse, Jane Kivet, presented on her views as a “Green Thumb” in the community, and the next speaker in the installment is Fiona Delcourt.

Delcourt, will be presenting on genealogy, and also heads up the Agassiz Library Genealogy Club, which meets the first Thursday of every month.

The Club encourages people to get to know their roots, as well as offering free advice and tips and tricks on navigating the world of family history.

So far, the Series has been well-received and well-attended in the community according to ACHS Executive Director Bobbi Jacob.

”I have a volunteer advisory committee of five and together we brainstormed possible speakers, then we asked other seniors what would interest them,” she said. “We are fortunate to have a great array of knowledge and interests in our communities. Topics speakers have covered include medical and legal matters, outdoor recreational activities and interests like the basics of genealogy, music, poetry and gaming.”

The series is scheduled to run every second Thursday until February of next year and a space for it has been generously donated by the Agassiz Legion.
