Tibetan gongs, drum making a part of Festival workshops

Numerous workshops have been announced for this summer's Harrison Festival of the Arts.

They range from group harmony singing to drum making sessions, and will run throughout the festival, starting July 7.

Gather in Song: Group Harmony Singing will help participants explore the joyful practice of group harmony singing with vocalist, singing teacher and member of The Shirleys Samantha Taylor.

A Banghra Dance Workshop runs on July 8, with the Vancouver International Bhangra Celebration.

Admission to the above workshops is by a $2 donation.

Darren Charlie of the Sts'ailes First Nation (who many saw making drums at last weekend's Sasquatch Festival) will hold a drum making demo on July 14, and a workshop on July 15.

Drum kits vary in cost from $35 to $80, depending on size.

Spirit Yoga will hold Yoga on the Beach throughout the festival, at 8:30 a.m. each day from July 7 to July 15.

Admission is $15, and participants need to bring a mat.

Cheryl Redfern and Elizabeth Mueller will hold a sunrise meditation on July 8 and 15 at 7:30 a.m., with the sounds of crystal bowls, Tibetan gongs and bells. Bring a mat and a blanket. Admission is a suggested donation of $10.
