Double bill helps close out summer

There was a silver lining to the rain clouds that washed out a scheduled concert in the park last week.

On Friday, August 29 – the last long weekend of the summer – organizers are planning a double feature, bringing together both the final Twilight Concert series  and Movie in the Park.

The concert will feature “Her Brothers” performing in Centennial Park by the new Community Recreation & Cultural Centre at 6660 Pioneer Avenue in Agassiz at 6:30 pm.  This concert is sponsored by Agassiz Harrison Lions Club, Harrison and Agassiz Chamber of Commerce, Prospera Credit Union and the Agassiz Harrison Observer.

This concert is free of charge and is the makeup date from the rained out performance on August 14.  Concert goers are encouraged to bring a lawn chair and blanket and come out to see these talented young musicians.

Her Brothers is a young band that wowed the crowd at Canada Day in Agassiz last year. It is is a Canadian alternative rock band from Langley. Together since 2008, Gabe Penner (lead vocals, guitar), Josh Penner (bass guitar), and Levi Penner (drums) have performed at a variety of venues and events around the west coast of Canada including fairs, cafés, community events, universities, and churches.

Meanwhile, the 6th annual Movie in the Park will be shown at 8:30 p.m. (dusk) at this same location.

The park becomes a giant outdoor theatre with a jumbo 45x30-foot inflatable screen.

The Disney family-friendly movie Frozen  will be shown. Suitable for all ages, the movie is a great opportunity for all generations to come out and enjoy the beauty of the park and spend quality time with each other. Organizers are offering a concession stand with popcorn, pop, chocolate bars and grab bags of candy all available for only one dollar each.  Several community-minded sponsors have come forward to help with this event; Envision Financial, The Agassiz Harrison Fire Department, Double V Construction Ltd and Lacey Developments Ltd have all contributed financially to make this movie event possible.

Admission is by donation to help offset costs as well.  Movie-goers are encouraged to bring a lawn chair and blanket and wear a jacket as the night air cools when the summer sun goes down.
