15 cooking teams will be grilling on their Big Green Eggs during Eggfest.

There are some products whose owners flock together to form tribes. The Big Green Egg is one of them.

The Big Green Egg is a charcoal cooker – a grill, a smoker and an oven all in one. And Egg owners (they call themselves “Eggheads”) love talking about it as much as they love cooking with it.

On May 27, the public gets to see what all the fuss is about, as Grand Pappy’s Home Furniture celebrates its second annual BC EggFest.

“We’re going to have 15 cooking teams grilling on their Big Green Eggs,” said Kathy McLellan, EggFest’s event coordinator. “Trevor MacDonald will be our MC and the music for the day, and we’ll have the Axewood Crew on hand—you can actually learn to throw an axe!”

The Big Green Egg is an egg-shaped ceramic cooker. It comes in a variety of sizes, but the classic type is indeed big and green. It burns charcoal, and is easy to adjust for temperature control and fuel efficiency. And it’s built to last — its space-age ceramics and double-wall construction will outlast a typical metal barbecue by many years.

Grand Pappy’s Home Furniture sells the Big Green Egg, and they love getting their Eggheads together to share and celebrate.

A $30 ticket gets you into the EggFest, and for the price of a ticket you can eat all day. There is also a pay-as-you-go beer garden. Tickets are available at bceggfest.com, or at Grand Pappy’s Home Furniture.

“We’ll have everything—wings, burgers, pizza, bread, brisket, pork tenderloin, chicken, duck,” McLellan said. “We will have a vegetarian grill this year, which is really nice. We’ll serve baked beans, mac and cheese, and even grilled lettuce!”

And leave room for dessert! The good people at I Fly For Pie will be serving up their signature specialties. They have even donated pies to be raffled off to raise funds for Bowls of Hope, EggFest’s designated charity. Other sponsors have also contributed raffle prizes.

EggFest is fun for the whole family, but please leave your pets at home (service animals are welcome).

Grand Pappy’s has some demonstration models of the Big Green Egg available for a limited time. Call or email the store for more information.
