Amazing Chase to honour Lilee-Jean

A local family has created a new, challenging race in honour of one of its youngest members, who died just a few months ago due to an aggressive brain tumour. Lilee-Jean Putt's aunt, Carolyn Putt, is leading the charge, and all proceeds will go toward pediatric cancer research.

The event, Chilliwack's Amazing Chase, takes place on Saturday, May 3, but the registration deadline is this Saturday, April 19.

The event takes place rain or shine, Putt said.

"It's in honour of Lilee and she loved the rain and the water, and we thought we could do the same for one day," she said.

This is how it works. Grab a friend or two (or three) and plan to be racing on foot, and navigating by car, around various locations in Chilliwack throughout the morning. The race begins at 10 a.m. at the Chilliwack Fire Hall, and wraps up at the Chilliwack Honda dealership.

There are several categories, and prizes for the fastest teams, best outfits, and so on. Even though there is a competitive element to the race, Putt said the competition is very family friendly and everyone would be capable of completing the different challenges along the way.

"I'm sure some teams will run it because they're competitive, but there will be other who will be pushing strollers," she siad.

When the race is all over, the event will be capped off with a barbecue, featuring entertainment by Lilee-Jean's dad, singer Andrew Christopher.

Every single dollar raised will go toward the cause, with all supplies and food having been donated, Putt said. She's been organizing the event for several months, and all the details are ironed out.

Now, she's just hoping those who plan on coming out will register by the deadline.

"We have a lot of fun organized, and now we are really just pushing for registration," she said. Registration is $30 a person, which includes the barbecue lunch, or $15 for children 12 and under. Those who just want to take part in the barbecue can donate there.

To register, email amazingchase2014@gmail.com, and join their Facebook page, Chilliwack's Amazing Chase for Children's, to learn more about the event and connect with other racers.
