Summer heats up for search and rescue team
After an unusually busy winter and a quiet spring, July has been a busy month for Kent Harrison Search and Rescue volunteers.
So far this month the team has responded to 10 incidents ranging from assisting with firefighting operations on the north side of Mt Woodside (forest fire), to a large-scale search on Mt. Washington (Vancouver Island), to six calls on Harrison Lake.
This Monday night saw SAR volunteers transporting paramedics to Long Island Bay to evacuate an elderly male with severe health problems.
But it was time for some volunteer work, public relations and fundraising on Saturday, July 26. Volunteers spent the Harrison Dragon Boat Regatta, providing a safety boat on the lake and running a fundraiser raffle and silent action. The SAR volunteers contributed over 100 combined hours to the event which raised over $2,200.
Marv Anderson, president of the KHSAR said "many thanks to the Fraser Valley Dragon Boat Club for the invitation, as well as their contribution of $900, which consisted of a silent auction for a team entry for next year’s regatta."
Kent Harrison SAR would also like to thank the following for their donation of prizes for the raffle: ICOM Canada, Carlton Rescue, Holly Tree Florists & Gifts, Greater Vancouver Power Sports, North Water Rescue And Paddling Equipment, Harrison Hot Springs Resort And Spa, Keenbeam, Lordco Auto Parts Ltd, District Of Kent, Murray Honda, Costco, Valley Moto, Sandpiper Golf Resort, Trotac Marine and G2G Management.
“We really appreciate the help of our supporters in raising funds for the search and rescue building project," Anderson said.
