The scene at Abbotsford Senior Secondary on Wednesday morning was in stark contrast to the chaos that erupted on Tuesday afternoon after a double stabbing occurred.

Abbotsford is reeling from the aftermath of the double stabbing yesterday at Abbotsford Senior Secondary that resulted in the death of a female student.

Numerous messages have been posted on social media from across the country to express condolences for the tragedy, and citizens are being encouraged to wear red and black – the school’s colours – as a sign of solidarity.

Abbotsford Senior Secondary was closed on Wednesday and will remain closed until Monday, to allow police to continue their investigation.

A site has been set up in the gym at St. Ann’s Roman Catholic Church (33333 Mayfair Ave.) – across the street from the school – for people to receive counselling and to access information.

The Abbotsford school district is holding a press conference at 10:30 a.m. to provide more information.

Acting superintendent Dr. Angus MacKay posted a message on the school district website, saying that district staff are “deeply saddened” by the incident.

“We extend our sincere condolences to the families of both students. We are a very caring community and when one of us hurts, we all do,” he said.

The attack took place at about 2 p.m. yesterday inside the school. Two female students were stabbed by a young man who, it is believed, was not a student there.

Both victims were airlifted to hospital, and one soon died of her injuries. The other teen is in stable condition in hospital.

The suspect remains in custody.
