Motorists whose vehicles need AirCare testing next year will get a break on fees in the final year of the program.

The fee for 1992 and newer vehicles drops from $45 to $36 in January and then is reduced $2 each month after that.

The fee for 1991 and older vehicles, now at $23, will be reduced by $1 each month.

The vehicle emissions testing program is to be scrapped at the end of 2014.

The provincial government says the air quality benefits from the program have diminished as vehicle pollution controls improved.
