The Liberals have nominated their candidate for next year’s federal election in the new riding that includes Agassiz and Harrison Hot Springs.
More than 500 Liberal party members cast their ballot in Abbotsford last Saturday, nominating Jatinder Sidhu as the Liberal Party of Canada's candidate in the riding of Mission–Matsqui–Fraser Canyon.
Welcoming his nomination, Sidhu said, "On a historic day, I’m elated and encouraged by the strong turnout in the newly formed riding of Mission-Matsqui-Fraser Canyon. I’m looking forward to working with people in the community, and I’m excited to be representing the Liberal Party led by Justin Trudeau in the next election."
Sidhu immigrated to Canada with his wife in 1974. He initially settled in Mission, where his three children were born, before moving to Abbotsford where he resides today.
He now owns and operates a number of businesses in the Fraser Valley, and is the founding member of the Fraser Valley Indo-Canadian Business Association, where he continues to focus on projects of diversity, intercultural understanding and celebration. He has been on the University of the Fraser Valley board of governors, the Asia Pacific Market Advisory Committee, the BC Multicultural Advisory Committee, the Abbotsford Police Board, the Fraser Valley Cole Co-op Association, the Abbotsford Agrifair Board, and the Abbotsford Chamber of Commerce.
