A family driving on Harrison East Forest Service Road had to be pulled out of a steep embankment Sunday, after their vehicle went off the road on their way home.

According to Kent Harrison Search and Rescue manager Neil Brewer, RCMP were called late Sunday (Jan. 6) about a family who was delayed returning home from a drive on the service road near Sasquatch Provincial Park.

When police set out to look for them, the family of five called to say they were running late. They passed the RCMP minutes later on the service road, just north of the exit .

“RCMP members then heard a loud crash and realized the family had driven off the road and down a steep embankment, where they were trapped inside the overturned vehicle,” Brewer said in an email.

“If the RCMP had not heard the accident, it could have taken hours to locate the family’s vehicle as it was well hidden in thick brush 30 feet down a steep embankment.”

Search and rescue volunteers worked with firefighters to get the family out of the vehicle.

According to Brewer, the three children and man were unharmed; the woman was injured and taken away by ambulance.

Diana Harris, grandmother to one of the children in the crash, said her granddaughter suffered bruising from the seat belt, as well as scrapes and whiplash.

Harris said her granddaughter’s father suffered a head contusion, as well as mutiple scrapes and a damaged shoulder. She didn’t know about any injuries to the two other children, and said the woman in the crash did suffer the worst injuries.
