Fraser River to peak Thursday near Agassiz, says fire chief

Warm weather and heavy rain has lead to snowpack melt

The Fraser River is on the rise, and is being watched closely by officials this week.

The rivershould peak on Thursday sometime in Agassiz, said Fire Chief Wayne Dyer. Emergency Management BC held its first conference call on Monday, and a second will be held Tuesday.

InAgassiz, officials will begin watching the dike system on Tuesday. The spring freshet was brought on by record temperature highs and heavy rains, Dyer said.

"All monitor stations are active now," he said. "Hopefully it will just peak and recede."
