Heroin intercepted at Mountain Institution

Prison goes into lock down to allow for full search

An unreported amount of heroin was seized from an inmate at Mountain Institution on February 29, say prison officials.

Correctional officers intercepted an inmate who was allegedly attempting to introduce drugs to Mountain Institution, a medium-security federal penitentiary. The seizure resulted in a lockdown so a search of the prison could be conducted. Tools that are being used currently by Correctional Service of Canada include ion scanners and drug dogs, and they search buildings, offenders and visitors. Police are investigating the incident.
