Sentences have been handed down to three inmates involved in a fight in Kent Institution.
A fight broke out at the maximum security prison near Agassiz on Nov. 13, 2008. Two unidentified inmates were sent to hospital. A third, Andrew Robert Craig, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Terence Robert Bolton received six years for charges of manslaughter and aggravated assault. He was initially charged with murder but pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of manslaughter. Franjo (Frank) Perovic, who had also been charged with murder, received 12 years for the same charges as Bolton. Both of the men were still incarcerated when charges were announced in 2011.
Nicholas Adam St. Hilaire had been released, and was arrested in connection to the melee. In sentencing, he received one day for manslaughter, and two years' probation.
A fourth man, Scott Edward Sanderson, was charged with aggravated assault and is facing sentencing separately.
The three mens' sentences were delivered in Supreme Court in New Westminster on Sept. 11.
At the time of Craig's death, the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team immediately took conduct of the murder investigation. In part, the investigation involved compiling a complete background investigation on all those involved in the incident as well as an extensive analysis of CCTV footage of the incident.
Craig, who was 27 when killed, was serving 10 year sentence for robbery and had completed almost five years of the term.
