Antoon (Ton) Basten
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ton Basten on January 6, 2010. He left this life for the next surrounded by family after a short illness. Ton was born on May 19, 1928, in Venlo, The Netherlands. Looking for a new challenge in his life, he immigrated to Canada in 1957, and settled in Vancouver. In 1970, he moved his young family to Agassiz and took over operation of the Agassiz Dry Cleaning business. After 23 years of hard work and long hours, he retired and enjoyed gardening, travelling, and volunteering at St. Anthony’s Church.
He will be greatly missed by his dear wife of 50 years, Tine; his children Miriam, Joan, Harry, and Gerald; his daughters-in-law Coreen and Trina; and his grandchildren TJ and Navi. Also left to mourn are his sisters Cor, Liet, and Tiel in The Netherlands. He was predeceased by his parents Hein and Jo, his sisters Fien and Jo, and his brother Sef, all of The Netherlands.
Funeral mass was held at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church on Monday, January 11. In lieu of flowers, donations to Development and Peace would be gratefully welcomed.
The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses of the Abbotsford Hospital ICU for their kind and compassionate care.
Sadly missed and forever in our hearts.
