It is with great sadness in out hearts, we announce the passing of a longtime Agassiz resident Charles (Charlie) Dunk, at the age of 71. Charlie is survived by his mother Vera Dunk (Barnes) of Van., brother Ross of Oshawa,ON., current life partner Pauline Chapman, two sons Daniel and Shawn, two daughters Debbie and Leanne, six grand children, and numerous nieces and nephews. Charlie was predeceased by his father Rossmore Dunk and two wives Shirley Dunk (Cryderman) and Lois Dunk (Sanderson). Born in Oshawa, ON., Charlie joined the Royal Canadian Navy at the end of the Korean War at the age of 16, he served on two ships, the HMCS Sioux and the HMCS Magnificent (Maggie) one of only three air craft carriers in the Canadian Navy. After five years of service Charlie met and married Shirley and had two children Danny and Debbie. Shirley sadly passed away leaving Charlie with two children under the age of two. He then decided to marry the babysitter Lois and had two more children Shawn and Leanne. Charlie then packed up his family and moved to B.C. in 1965 and got a job as a prison guard in the B.C Pen in New West Minister. Subsequently moving to Agassiz and working at Mountain Prison as a carpentry instructor. Sadly, his second wife Lois passed away in the year 2000. Charlie spent many years as a mason, was a past president of the Legion and an auxilliary RCMP in the 1970's. Following a cremation, a small funeral will be held at the Seabird Island Church on Thursday, March 22nd 2007 from 12pm -1pm. A celebration of his life will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion in Agassiz after the funeral from 1pm-6pm. All are welcome.
