MAURER, Elizabeth Marion

Jan 9, 1927 - Apr. 25, 2008

Elizabeth (Beth) was born to Donald and Cathrine McKay in Penticton, BC. Her early years were spent on her parents' fruit orchard in Naramata. She attended UBC and McGill University and graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Horticulture in 1948. She met her husband Fred at UBC. Fred accepted an appointment in Plant Science with the UK Colonial Service and they travelled to Nigeria where they resided for twelve years. In 1962 the family came to Agassiz where they soon became active in the community.

Beth started her painting career by studying with several well known artists. She mastered oil and acrylic techniques before specializing in watercolour. Her paintings are hanging in homes and offices throughout Canada and in many other countries. She was a founding member of the Agassiz Monday Painters and the Chilliwack painters' group.

Beth is survived by her husband Fred, sons Fred (Yovita) and Keith (Kim), six grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her son Robert and her mother and father. The family would like to express its appreciation to Anne Marie and the staff of Glenwood Care Centre and to Dr. McIntosh for the loving care they gave Beth in her last few years when she was afflicted with Alzheimer's dementia.

A service in celebration of Beth's life will be held on Thursday May 1st, at 1:30pm at the Friendship House, Morrow Road, Agassiz.
