PHELPS ~ Lillian Beatrice

(nee Arnell)

Was born April 13, 1921 at Vinsulla in the North Thompson region of B.C., and passed away July 20, 2007 in Nanaimo after a protracted struggle with Alzheimer's disease.

Her family moved from the interior to Deroche in the Fraser Valley when she was a child. She married Ron Phelps in 1939 and during their working life they lived in Harrison, Texada Island, Mission, Hope, Maple Ridge and at an assortment of logging camps. In retirement they lived in Vancouver and on Vancouver Island. She was predeceased by Ron in 1995, and is survived by her son Ken.

Both Ron and Lil spent their lives devoted to working hard and with complete integrity and honesty at whatever task was presented to them. Nothing was ever procrastinated or left half done. Like so many of their generation they were kept from a higher education by economic and family circumstance, but were careful to provide a home that was supportive of learning and provided the opportunities they had been denied.

Thanks to the staff of Dufferin Place in Nanaimo who treated her with such respect long after her personality had gone. Donations to Alzheimer's research would be most appreciated.
