Rev. Reginald Harvey (Reg) Brown

July 10, 1928 - January 6, 2017


Born to James Eldred and Pearl Elizabeth (Jackson) Brown, Reg was the youngest of 5 children. He was born and raised in Earl Gray, Saskatchewan. He attended the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon, graduating with a B.Ed. Reg took his theological training at St. Andrews College, Saskatoon and Union College Vancouver, graduating with a B.D. Reg served as an ordained minister in Norway House, Manitoba, and First United Church, Vancouver where he met and married Barbara Millicent (May) to be his partner and best friend for 58 years. They moved to St. Paul's United Church, Burnaby. He then joined the R.C.A.F. as a chaplain and was stationed at the radar base in Seneterre, Quebec, R.C.A.F Station, Whitehorse, Y.T. and Defence Research Station Suffield, Alberta. Reg spent three wonderful years at sea with the Canadian Destroyer Squadron based out of Esquimalt, BC. He was then posted to C.F.B Masset, Queen Charlotte Islands and finished his millitary career in C.F.B Lancaster Park, Edmonton Alberta. Retiring from the Canadian Armed Forces, Reg accepted a call to Fairview United Church in Nelson, BC where he spent six wonderful years before accepting a call from the Agassiz Rosedale Pastoral Charge. Reg retired in 1992 after celebrating 36 years of active ministry. After retirement, Reg still remained very active in a number of churches, preaching regularly at Mt Lehman United Church. He remained a member of the Agassiz - Harrison Ministerial and United Church Choir. Reg was the Chaplain for the Agassiz branch of the Royal Canadian Legion for 15 years and was a member of the CAC at Mountain Institution and Kent Institution. Reg volunteered regularly at the Agassiz Museum and was a member of the Old Age Pensioners where he became an avid floor curler. Reg was an avid reader and enjoyed square dancing, hiking, fishing, aerobics, swimming and traveling. Reg will be most remembered for his friendly caring manner and his quirky dry sense of humour. He is survived by his loving wife, Barbara; daughter, Noreen (Blaine) MacKenzie; son, Peter (Barbara) Brown; sisters-in-law, Gwen Brown and Noree Davis-Shiel; three step granddaughters, Ashley (Weston) Stevens, Maree (Jeremy) Danberg & Nikki (Luke) Zwaga and 8 great grandchildren. Predeceased by his parents; sister Valeria and by his brothers Everett, Alvin & Joseph and nephew, Stephen Davis-Sheil. A Celebration of Life for Reg will be held Saturday February 18, 2017 at 1pm in Agassiz United Church, 6860 Lougheed Hwy ,Agassiz, BC
