Letter: What is happening is 'disgusting, dark and ugly'
This is in response to the editorial comment "Dairy Farmers Deserve our Support" June 24, 2014.
The day that the video of the cow abuse was released by the media I was on a flight from Montreal to Calgary. The aircraft are equipped with small TV screens on the backs of every seat. As I sat there I saw this video come on my screen and then I noticed that three quarters of the screens in the aircraft had it on. The news was on a loop and the video was shown again and again throughout the flight. Then I realized this was happening on every other aircraft flying that day in the U.S. and Canada. It was quite an impact. It wasn't until I arrived home that I discovered this had occurred in Chilliwack.
Later that week I read the Observer and came across this comment "Dairy Farmers Deserve our Support" "Author Unknown". I really took offense to the tone of this comment as the author attempts to blame ever one else but the abusers. The author calls the online comments hysterical and the petitioners "the online lynch mob" well what do expect when what happened is disgusting, very dark and ugly. I also take offense to the author's comment "allegedly beat dairy cows". Those are real people beating the cows!
Don't get things twisted here. The consequences of the abusers' actions is squarely on the shoulders of the abusers themselves, no one else. The damage to the dairy industry is the abusers' responsibility and no one else's.
Kudos to Mercy for Animals for exposing this very dark side of humans and to all who spoke out against the cruelty you are the protecting the farmer's dairy cows, because without dairy cows there are no dairy farmers.
Cruelty Be Gone.
