The Abbotsford Heat celebrate a second-period goal against the Lake Erie Monsters

The Abbotsford Heat split a two-game series in Cleveland, Ohio last weekend, winning one and dropping one to the Lake Erie Monsters.

The Heat scored three second-period goals in their Friday contest, coming back to beat the Monsters 5-2 and surviving a penalty shot that Lake Erie's Garrett Meurs rang off the crossbar. But, on Saturday, the Monsters responded with a comeback of their own, and goalie Calvin Pickard pulled off what is perhaps the save of the year in the AHL – or any league – with a glove save to keep Erie's 3-2 lead intact in the third period.

The Heat – which are the Calgary Flames' AHL affiliate club and the only American Hockey League team in British Columbia – have two more games this weekend, hosting the Milwaukee Admirals at the Abbotsford Entertainment and Sports Centre.

Abby's Ben Hanowski leads the team with two goals and three points through two games, while Paul Byron has three assists.

Reto Berra started both games in goal, allowing five goals on 66 shots and posting a .924 save percentage.
