600 students to compete at Skills Canada BC event in Abbotsford

The 31st annual Skills Canada BC trades and technology competition comes to Tradex in Abbotsford on Wednesday, April 16.

More than 600 secondary and post-secondary students who medalled at 13 regional B.C. events – including the Upper Fraser Valleys in Chilliwack in February – will compete in wide variety of categories.

Competitions include carpentry, plumbing, electrical, baking, welding, graphic design, 3D animation, robotics and more.

Thousands of students, educators and the general public will also attend as spectators to watch the competitions, try some interactive hands-on activities and visit the Pathways to Careers Showcase. 

Admission to Tradex is free and the Pathways to Careers Showcase will run from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Gold medallists from the provincial competition will become part of Team BC and compete at the 2025 Skills Canada National Competition in Regina, Sask. on May 29 and 30.

Winners in the national event quality to compete at the WorldSkills competition in Shanghai, China in September 2026.

The WorldSkills event is held every two years and is the world’s largest showcase of vocation education and skills excellence.
