Justice advocate Danielle Strickland is the keynote conference for a virtual conference hosted May 7 and 8 by Abbotsford-based Food for the Hungry Canada.

Food for the Hungry (FH) Canada, based in Abbotsford, hosts its first virtual conference on May 7 and 8.

Flourishing: Uprooting Poverty, Planting Hope is designed to equip Canadians to make a practical difference on issues of poverty at home and around the world.

Keynote speaker Danielle Strickland, a justice advocate and peacemaker, will talk about becoming ambassadors of reconciliation.

Additional speakers actively engaged in ending poverty across Canada and the globe will challenge the common narrative that poverty is about a lack of material goods.

Experts who will tackle the spiritual, social, personal, and environmental nature of poverty include Daniel Whitehead of Sanctuary Ministries, Derek Cook of Ambrose University’s Poverty Institute and Rick Faw of A Rocha Canada.

“By bringing together some of the leading justice and poverty alleviation advocates, you will experience candid conversation and a timely invitation to enter into relational approaches to help end all forms of poverty,” says Shawn Plummer, president and CEO of FH Canada.

Over the course of two mornings, participants may choose from multiple guided workshops where they can ask tough questions and interact with peers and experts wrestling through similar quandaries.

The sessions address topics such as the pursuit of personal mental health, reconciliation with Indigenous neighbours, and where Christians find themselves in the current climate crisis.

Tickets are $20. Visit fhcanada.org/flourishing to register
