Agassiz-Harrison Lions support B.C. Fire Victims

The Agassiz-Harrison Lions Club recently donated the proceeds from the Street Meet car show to victims of the wildfires in B.C. The event took place on July 23 in Agassiz and less than two weeks later a presentation was made to the Salvation Army Disaster Relief Fund. 100% of the donations to this Fund are used in disaster relief, with no funds diverted to cover administrative costs.

The Agassiz-Harrison Lions Club recently donated the proceeds from the Street Meet car show to victims of the wildfires in B.C. The event took place on July 23 in Agassiz and less than two weeks later a presentation was made to the Salvation Army Disaster Relief Fund. 100% of the donations to this Fund are used in disaster relief, with no funds diverted to cover administrative costs.

Standing in front of the Army’s disaster relief truck on August 2, Lions President Bob Boorman presented a cheque for $1400 to Don Armstrong of the Chilliwack branch of the Salvation Army. Armstrong had just returned the previous day from the stricken area and was getting ready to return there in his role as Emergency Disaster Services Coordinator. Armstrong told Agassiz-Harrison Lions representatives that the donation would support areas not covered by government funds. Lions Club members were also pleased to learn that evacuees’ pets were not being forgotten. A truckload of supplies had just left Chilliwack the day before, destined to help the four-legged victims.

The donation was made possible because of the Agassiz-Harrison Lions members who planned and volunteered at the Street Meet along with all those that attended the event.
