Longtime Agassiz Legion volunteer Ed Arndt has passed away.

The flag at Royal Canadian Legion Branch 32 was recently lowered in Arndt’s honour. Arndt, a Vietnam veteran, volunteered at the Legion for many years, serving the organization’s vice president.

Arndt is remembered as a good-natured friend to all and a tireless volunteer and community advocate.

“He always had a good joke and was so much fun to be with,” Jo-Ann Ljubinkovic said in the social media announcement. “Thank you, Ed, for everything you did for Branch 32 and Peggy, we want to be here to support you at this time.”

Both Mayor Sylvia Pranger and Coun. Susan Spaeti at the District of Kent offered their sympathies.

Spaeti served on the Agassiz-Harrison Healthy Communities Committee with Arndt when the Legion’s community garden was getting started.

“He was full of energy and ideas,” Spaeti shared. “He continued to represent the Legion at those meetings and always advocated for working together between all our organizations. He was always stepping up to help his community be a better place.”

“(Ed) was hard-working and always a pleasure to work with,” Pranger said.
