An Agassiz Secondary student has reaped the sweet rewards of their mathematically delicious pie.

Grade 12 student Carys Bolan is one of two winners from the Skills Canada B.C. Pi Day Challenge, which ran from March 14 to March 25. Students grades K to 12 were invited to create their own edible or non-edible pie using one of the many Skills for Success listed on the Skills Canada website; these skills are dependent on grade level and may include problem solving, creativity and communication.

According to Skills Canada, Bolan created an apple pie, collaborating with a group as well as used the adaptability skill to create a pie the entire class would enjoy. Evon Macins, grade 7, from the SelfDesign Learning Foundation won with his miniature clay pumpkin pie.

Winners were judged on multiple criteria, including creativity, neatness, challenge and more. Both Bolan and Macins took home a $50 e-gift card of their choice.

Skills Canada frequently runs online competitions for students across the province; competitions thus far have ranged from public speaking to social media to the culinary arts and beyond.

Skill Canada B.C. is based in Vancouver, placing emphasis on exposing students to career opportunities, trades and technology.
