As the final donations are tabulated, the organizer of the third annual Follow Your Heart Benefit Concert reflected on another great year for the local event.
Harrison's own country artist Todd Richard said that while ticket sales were slow, the event sold out by the time doors opened.
"It was definitely our biggest and best show yet," Richard told The Observer. This year's concert included performances from Miss Shauna, Trevor Murray and Rick Tippe as well as Richard and the TR Band. The Harrison Hot Springs Fire Department donated $1,000 to the cause.
The Follow Your Heart Benefit Concert supports Variety Children's Charity. Variety advocates for and supports children and youth with special needs across 11 countries in 40 chapters worldwide. B.C.'s chapter is headquartered in Burnaby.
Last year, Richard and HHSFD Chief Curtis Genest attended a presentation in Abbotsford that unveiled a van purchased through funds raised by the Follow Your Heart concerts. The van is now in service of Foundry Abbotsford, an organization dedicated to offering health and social services to people ages 12 to 24 throughout the eastern Fraser Valley.
The Follow Your Heart Benefit Concert has grown every year since it was established in 2023. Richard has been a long-time supporter of Variety; every download and stream of his song "Follow Your Heart" 100-per cent benefits Variety.
