2017 marks Canada’s 150th Anniversary and what a great opportunity to celebrate our nation’s birthday with splashes of red and white in Vimy Park.

Council approved the District’s participation in the “Friends Non-Competitive” category in the 2017 Communities in Bloom program. It was agreed to improve the garden bed within Vimy Park considering the old crab apple tree was removed due to decay.

With the help of many community “friends” including students from the Agassiz Christian School, Royal Canadian Legion Branch 32, Council, District staff, over 100 red and white petunias were planted throughout the Vimy Park garden bed on Friday, June 9. 2017. A rock plaque identifying the District’s participation in the Communities in Bloom program and Canada’s 150th birthday will soon be placed in the garden.

The District will be celebrating Canada’s 150th birthday throughout the summer including the Canada Day celebration on July 1st at Centennial Park and Heritage Days in Pioneer Park on July 19, Aug. 2 and 16.
