Grade 6 students at Kent Elementary got a chance to rub shoulders with some minor celebrities Tuesday (Feb. 12).
Chilliwack Chiefs forwards Kevin Wall and Carter Wilkie came to the class Tuesday to read to the students, answer questions and of course, engage in a little ball hockey.
“For them, it’s a big deal,” Grade 6 teacher Donna Gallamore said. “It’s a real hockey player they get to be near.”
A former season-ticket holder for the Chilliwack Chiefs, Gallamore decorated her classroom in hockey jerseys and had the students create a poster for each Chief’s player to hang from the ceiling for their arrival.

Gallamore has been inviting the hockey team to come to her classroom every year since before 1999. When she used to teach Grade 4, she had her students write stories about the Chilliwack Chiefs players that might be visiting. Although her Grade 6 class doesn’t have time to write stories, the experience is still really cool for the students.
“I thought it would be something that would be interesting for the kids,” she said. “It’s kind of cool because they’re positive role models for the kids. They’re kind of iconic for them.”
