Chilliwack Transit is providing free service on Canada Day, and extra trips on Route 2 Evans until after the fireworks. (Progress file)

Getting to Canada Day festivities in Chilliwack should be a bit easier with the help of transit this year.

There will be free service on all routes that day, according to the Chilliwack Transit Canada Day schedule. (Attached below) And while the rest of the city will operate as a regular Sunday, Route 2 Evans will have a heavily increased schedule to get people to and from Townsend Park.

The bus is running every 10 to 20 minutes throughout the day, and will make its last trip well after the last bit of fireworks.

Canada Day events begin at 8 a.m. with a pancake breakfast at Evergreen Hall. There is also a pancake breakfast at the firehall on Cheam Avenue that begins at 8 a.m.

Free events run throughout the day at the park, and wrap up at 10 p.m. when the fireworks begin. For a full schedule of all the Canada Day events, see page 18.

The final city buses will leave Ashwell and Hodgins at 11:04 p.m. in one direction, and 11:13 p.m. the other direction.
