In order for Christmas bells to ring here in Agassiz-Harrison, they need bell ringers.
The Salvation Army’s Christmas Kettle Campaign launches on Saturday, Dec. 3 here and across Canada. Locally, the campaign will once again outside Red Apple, located at 7116 Pioneer Avenue in Agassiz. Local Christmas Kettle Campaign organizer Rose Tustian said the Sally Ann is looking for volunteers to take turns ringing bells to encourage donations.
“We can’t raise these essential funds without the help of volunteers,” Tustian told The Observer. “Without your efforts, many people would continue to face challenges in our communities.”

Bell-ringing shifts are two hours long and will run Dec. 3, 10 and 17 (all Saturdays leading up to Christmas) between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. Local dignitaries, including MLA Kelli Paddon and District of Kent Mayor Sylvia Pranger – frequently take bell-ringing shifts.
“Bad singing” of Christmas songs is encouraged while ringing bells, Tustian said.
The Christmas Kettle campaign is The Salvation Army’s biggest fundraising event of the year. The proceeds of the campaign support those living in poverty in their respective communities.

“Hosting a Christmas Kettle with friends, family or co-workers is a great way to connect with our community and contribute to a great cause,” Tustian stated. “It is also a wonderful way to spread some much-needed Christmas cheer.”
