Calling all green thumbs.
Earthwise Agassiz is hosting their first Seedy Saturday on March 29 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. This event is a great opportunity to swap seeds and seedlings, learn more about gardening and get to know your fellow gardeners just in time for spring planting.
Those who wish to participate are invited to bring their extra seeds and seedlings to trade with others. Earthwise Agassiz particularly encourages the use of open-pollinated, heirloom and organic seeds and to stay away from invasive species. Seeds and seedlings should be labelled clearly with plant names, varieties and any special growing tips. Bringing seeds is not required to take part in the swap; just take what you need and be mindful of others.
In addition to the seed/seedling swap, Earthwise Agassiz is offering three workshops throughout the day. At 10:30 a.m., community farm coordinator Mark McLaughlin will host Introduction to Permaculture, described as "a holistic gardening approach that can save time, money and energy while supporting local biodiversity." McLaughlin will help gardeners keep their gardens sustainable and help them adapt to a changing climate. At noon, local gardner Simone McNally hosts a container gardening workshop, navigating the ins and outs of finding the right plants, soil and containers for a successful container garden. At 12:30 p.m., UBC PhD candidate Harini S. Aiyer presents on garden microbiology. This course goes over the important role biodiversity plays in a healthy garden.
Healthy snacks will be available for attendees to enjoy.
