Free coffee and treats made their way to each and every department at Chilliwack General Hospital on Thursday morning, thanks to a donation by Tim Hortons.

One by one, health-care workers from each area of the hospital arrived to pick up their boxed, ready-to-serve coffee dispensers and treats to take back to their co-workers.

Robert Beischer from the Fraser Valley Health Care Foundation was there to organize the effort and ensure the process went smoothly. The foundation is handling all food donations to the hospitals they work with, including CGH, Abbotsford Regional Hospital, Mission Memorial Hospital and Fraser Canyon Hospital.

Dozens of companies around the Fraser Valley have donated to hospitals recently. In Chilliwack, in addition to Tim Hortons, that includes Home Depot, Circle Square Donuts, Marks Work Wearhouse, Dairy Queen, Remedy Drinks, and Canadian Tire, as well as the Chilliwack Hospital Service League.

“We all know physicians, nurses, and all health care staff at our hospital are doing their jobs with diligence, care, and compassion,” the foundation website reads. “We are extremely grateful for their dedication, and we extend our heartfelt support to them as they face this very challenging situation.”

“We also understand you want to support them in any way possible during this time and we love seeing that. Our healthcare workers and our patients are feeling the impact of your support more directly than ever.”

There is a website form for those wishing to donate food items, at www.fvhcf.ca/covid19, but people can also call the foundation directly. There are several guidelines with donations and the foundation staff can ensure safety for everyone involved.

“This way, we can help coordinate drop off and reduce the spread of any infection and help flatten the curve,” their website states, adding that “individually wrapped items are best to hand out at the hospital.”

But the foundation isn’t just organizing food donations. They are also keeping a list of kudos from the public to health-care workers.

If you would like to send a message of thanks and encouragement, email info@fvhcf.ca or fill out the form on their website.

And as always, the foundation is accepting monetary donations for ongoing projects that they help fulfill at all of the hospitals listed above.

Questions about donations can also be asked at 604-851-4890.
