The LRRAC has been in the works for several years. This May, the District of Kent council voted to direct staff to issue a letter of intent for a CCDC2 contract with Chandos Construction, effectively kicking off the construction of the new pool facility.
The estimated price of the facility sits at about $23.5 million. The facility will ultimately replace the the Ferny Coombe Outdoor Pool, which has been in the service of Agassiz-Harrison and the surrounding community for nearly 50 years.
The outdoor pool is well past its expected lifespan. The new 27,000-square foot facility will house an eight-lane lap pool, lazy river, leisure pool and other features. It will be built to connect to the Community Recreation and Cultural Centre in Agassiz, located at 6660 Pioneer Avenue, not far from the Ferny Coombe Outdoor Pool.
The provincial government has provided $9.5 million toward the construction of the pool, and the federal government has invested approximately $454,000.
