Girls unite with youth club in Agassiz

New youth group hopes to provide positive environment for local girls

A Girls Youth Club has been started in Agassiz, open to girls in Grades 7 to 9.

The club meets every two weeks, including today from 3:30 p.m. to about 5:30 p.m. It's being organized by Pat Frey, a special needs teacher at AESS.

"What prompted me to do this is that I see here at the school that adolescent girls have a lot of challenges to deal with," Frey said,

"I wanted to provide a positive environment for them."

Several other adults have stepped up to help with the Girls Youth Club, offering their expertise in things like cooking and the arts.

Each night will include a fun and healthy communal meal, activities and plenty of discussion, and meets at Agassiz United Church. Other dates coming up include June 8 and 22.

For more information, email Frey at Agassiz.Girls.Club@gmail.com.
