The Harrison Hot Springs Community Garden received some new additions recently.
Volunteers with the community garden welcomed galvanized steel boxes where the gardens will now be housed. The bigger, stronger boxes are a significant upgrade from their wooden counterparts, and they were made possible thanks to a $5,000 donation from the Agassiz-Harrison Lions Club.
In addition to being structurally stronger, the boxes are considerably higher than the old boxes, making them more accessible for those who live with mobility issues.
The boxes themselves come from Growboxx Canada, which are manufactured in Chilliwack. They are made of 1-millimetre-thick galvanized metal that will stand strong and last for several years to come.
Last year, the Harrison Hot Springs Community Garden benefited from the 2024 Age-Friendly Communities Grant program, receiving $15,000 to provide additional fencing for the garden and an art installation in the same area. The grant comes from the B.C. Healthy Community Society, which supports aging British Columbians in "living active, socially engaged, independent lives."
