Last year was the first time in 12 years the local Terry Fox run took place in Harrison Hot Springs.
The Terry Fox Run raises money for cancer research every year in memory of Coquitlam's Terry Fox. Fox was 18 when he was diagnosed with osteogenic carcinoma and made it a goal to run across the country, 26 miles a day, to raise funds for cancer research. He made his way through Newfoundland and Labrador through Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Quebec and Ontario. He was forced top stop in Thunder Bay due to cancer in his lungs. He died on June 28, 1981 at the age of 22.
As of last year, the Terry Fox Run has raised at least $850 million.
