Harrison Hot Springs has been rewarded for their efforts toward a more inclusive and accessible village.

Harrison officials recently announced that the village has received a $25,000 Local Community Accessibility Grant. The grant will support the village's accessibility plan and be put toward installing automatic door openers at a number of municipal facilities. Additionally, the grant will help provide for accessible picnic tables, upgraded signage to include braille and accessibility training.

The village council adopted Harrison's first accessibility plan earlier this year with the objective of addressing existing physical and environmental barriers for those living with disabilities and mobility issues.

SPARC BC administered the grant. The Burnaby-based nonprofit is also known as The Social Planning and Research Council of B.C. Established in 1966, SPARC B.C. works toward "a more just and healthy society for all."
