The District of Kent recently got a shout out from the other side of the globe – from another Kent.

Kent Online, a popular news website for the county of Kent in the United Kingdom, recently published a piece on Kents from around the world, which included our own District of Kent.

“The continent with the most Kents is North America, with both Canada and the United States bearing places with the name,” Kent Online reporter Charlie Harman writes. “The District of Kent in British Columbia, Canada was largely established through a gold rush in 1858. It is a sparsely populated region with 6,067 inhabitants covering 65 square miles.”

“One thing that Kent , U.K., doesn’t have is a mountain, whereas our Canadian counterpart boasts Mount Woodside at 793 metres in elevation,” Harman continues. “Agassiz, the only town in the area, also hosts a tulip festival every year.”

The article goes on to mention the more than 16 Kents scattered throughout the United States, Africa’s only Kent – Kent, Sierra Leone – and The Kent Group, a collection of six islands located off the coast of Australia.

Kent Online has a wide audience in the U.K. with a Facebook page populated with more than 126,000 fans.
