Parade

The parade starts at 10 a.m. on Saturday, moving east along Cheam Avenue to Highway 9, where it will then travel to Pioneer Avenue and onward to the fairgrounds.

Fair Exhibits

Entries for this year’s fair exhibits must be submitted by Sept. 9. Exhibits are to be brought to the Agassiz Agricultural Hall on Wednesday, Sept. 15, between 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. Exhibits not picked up by 7 to 7:30 p.m. will be donated to the auction.

New This Year…

This year’s fall fair also includes the decorated round hay bale contest. The event is open for groups of four or more, including farms, fair sponsors, 4-H groups and more. The Agassiz Agricultural and Horticultural Association (AAHA) will provide a bale to the first 12 participants who register; registration can be done by including your group name and contact information in an email to info@agassizfallfair.com.

Registration is $5 and is due Sept. 9 at the Agricultural Hall.

Bales will be decorated on Friday morning (Sept. 17) at the fairgrounds with judging to take place at 1 p.m.

Decorations must be waterproof and wind-proof and must not destroy the bale for future use. Decorations must also be clean and wholesome as well as promoting agriculture.

A sign with a group name and logo is allowed and recommended after judging has taken place.

First prize is $50, second $40 and third $30.

Corn King/Queen

Entries for field produce and for the Corn King/Queen competition must be received by Aug. 27. Winners will be eligible for a $100 cash prize from Trouw Nutrition, a place of honour in the Fall Fair parade and their name immortalized as corn royalty. The runner-up receives $75 from Avenue Machinery Corp with third place winning $50 from OK Tire.

Nathan Hertgers was 2020’s Corn King, and there hasn’t been a Corn King winner for two years running since 2010 (Weibe Vander Wyk, who also won in 2009). Hertgers first won in 2013, but whether or not Hertgers will keep the crown for 2021 is anybody’s guess.

The final schedule for the famous corn and chicken barbecue and other events has not yet been released.

Each year, an average of 10,000 people attend the Agassiz Fall Fair and Corn Festival.

The AAHA is looking for volunteers to help process fair entries, assist at the gate and more. To learn ways you can help, contact the AAHA at 604-796-3246 or email info@agassizfallfair.com.
