There’s always a reason to celebrate family — especially in Agassiz and Harrison during Family Day.

Although it’s one week later than usual this year, there are still plenty of activities going on. It’s your day off, so do what you and your family love best, whether that’s jumping around a bouncy castle or checking out the Museum’s newest exhibit.

Sts’ailes Family Fun Day

When: Friday, Feb. 15

Time: 3 p.m. to 11 p.m.

Where: Sts’ailes Community School gym

Details: Everyone is welcome to this pre-Family Day event at Sts’ailes Community School. Starting at 3 p.m. kids can enjoy cotton candy, popcorn, face painting and a bouncy castle, as well as demonstrations from “the Reptile Guy” and a lantern release. The fun doesn’t stop when it gets dark though. A free dance opens at 6 p.m. in the gym and goes until 11 p.m.

Harrison Hot Springs Family Day

When: Saturday, Feb. 16

Time: 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Where: Memorial Hall (290 Esplanade Ave)

Details: They might be two days early, but Tourism Harrison is ready to celebrate family at Memorial Hall on Saturday, Feb. 16. The event will feature some top headliners throughout the day: Science World is returning this year with live demonstrations, and Wildsafe B.C. will be available to teach kids and parents about wildlife and safety. Kids will also be able to enjoy games, crafts and a bouncy castle. Although the event officially ends at 3 p.m., Tourism Harrison will show Harry and the Hendersons, a movie about one family’s encounter with a friendly Sasquatch, at 4:30 p.m.

District of Kent’s Family Fun Day

When: Saturday, Feb. 16

Time: 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Where: Community Recreation and Cultural Centre (6660 Pioneer Ave)

Details: Bring the whole family down to a free day of fun at Kent’s Community Recreation and Cultural Centre. The event will feature open playtime in the gymnasium and inflatables for all ages. There will also be giant games for the whole family to enjoy — including a real-life version of Hungry, Hungry Hippos. Kids can enjoy getting their face painted, and parents can use the time to sign their kids up for the next season of sports.

Family Heritage Day at the Museum

When: Monday, Feb. 18

Time: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Where: Agassiz Harrison Museum (7011 Pioneer Ave)

Details: The Agassiz Harrison Museum and the District of Kent have joined forces to celebrate Family Day and kick of B.C.’s heritage week. Everyone is invited to come out and complete an in-museum scavenger hunt and enter the family portrait contest using exhibits as back drops. Families will be also able to preview the Museum’s main gallery renovation and learn about some local history — including how people used to get around the Agassiz-Harrison valley.

District of Kent Family Day drop-in

When: Monday, Feb. 18

Time: 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Where: Community Recreation and Cultural Centre (6660 Pioneer Ave)

Details: To celebrate Family Day, the District of Kent is offering free drop-ins to the gymnasium for kids to have a chance to enjoy open play indoors.

Seabird Island Dinner and Dance

When: Tuesday, Feb. 19

Time: 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Where: Seabird Island band gym (2895 Chowat Rd)

Details: Seabird Island community members are invited to join in a dinner and dance at the band gym after the Family Day weekend. Members will enjoy an eco-friendly burger and fries meal — don’t forget to bring your own plate and forks — followed by a ’50s dance.
