Guests were greeted to a diversity of art by a myriad of talented painters at the Monday Painters 56th Annual Art Show on Saturday at the Agassiz United Church. The room was filled with the pieces of a dedicated group of individuals, showcasing the skill, time, and technique that went into making the show a success.

Art is about longevity, according to one painter’s work that can be compared to that of American painter Thomas Kincade. Alexa Chykowski took a moment to chat with The Observer about her scenescape of Agassiz.

Her painting depicts a charming street scene in Agassiz featuring her family and her little dogs who have long since passed, and though she will never sell it, it will remain as a family heirloom. For Chykowski, art is something she can pass down to her children, a legacy of love that will remain, but at 75 years young, she plans to spend many more years painting in the serene and inspiring ambience provided by the Monday Painters.

People are living longer and they need something to do with their time and art provides that,” she said. “For example a five year old boy today will have a good chance of living to be 105, and it’s important to keep busy and to have purpose — art gives you purpose,” said Chykowski.

Other works showcased at the exhibit included the Northern Lights, landscapes, portraits, abstracts, nature scenes, still life, and an assortment of themes using an array of mediums to complete an intricate and diverse show that was well attended.

The show also had a special feeling adorned with flowers, dainty cups and saucers. Linda Payette was honoured as the featured artist of this year’s show. Her diverse creativity was clearly evident. Linda’s artwork is original with a flair for colour, imagination and interest which drew positive attention from the guests who were asking inquisitive questions regarding her successful methods,” said Art Show Organizer and Monday Painter Marg Doman.

The Agassiz Monday Painters appreciated the support from the visitors who attended this annual occasion. This event serves as a gathering place for the community to come together to experience the wonderful world of art while socializing with family and friends.

"It was so encouraging to hear the accolades of praise and acknowledgment of the artists’ talents. When artists are recognized for their artworks, this inspires them to continue to explore their creative abilities," said Doman.
