The Pioneer Park little library was recently vandalized.

The doors that kept the books safe from the elements have been removed, apparently broken off and taken.

“I just find it so sad that someone would feel the need to destroy it,” Elinor Bell, one of the Friends of the Agassiz Library, said in a recent Facebook post.

The community responded with anger, disappointment and offers to help rebuild the doors, including an offer from Chayce Fader, the Agassiz Elementary Secondary student who built the little libraries in Pioneer and Shep parks.

The box on Pioneer Avenue remains full of an ever-shifting selection of books as locals and visitors borrow and donate.
