Nothing ruins a picnic like stepping on a goose poop.
At Monday night’s council meeting the Village of Harrison discussed the best approach for handling Canadian Goose feces in the grassy areas near the beach.
Goose poop not only causes issues for summer-time picnic-ers and sunbathers, it can also cause “Swimmer’s Itch;” a rash caused by an allergic reaction to bird droppings that contain parasite eggs.
Removing manure on the land might keep the grass clear, but it won’t prevent bird droppings in the Lagoon or in the lake.
The manure sweeper currently used is aging out and in need of replacement, but after the proposed purchase of the $15,000 Tow and Collect 1500 Pro, a couple other options were discussed by council.
Should taller grasses be planted? The grass removed? Will the Village have to continue spending $15,000 to replace pooper-scoopers in the future?
Tell us how you think the Village should proceed in dealing with the goose poop issue.
