Local Realtors are once again calling on people to donate blankets and warm clothing for those in need this year, but they’ll be collecting the items in a different fashion due to the pandemic.

The 26th annual Realtors Care Blanket Drive, hosted by Chilliwack and District Real Estate Board (CADREB), will be a drive-through event for 2020.

Normally Realtors would go door to door to collect donations or have donations dropped off at local real estate offices, but as a result of COVID-19, things have changed.

Not only will the blanket drive be taking place on one specific day, but folks won’t even need to get out of their vehicles to drop off donations.

People can bring gently used blankets and warm clothing, or new socks and underwear to the drive-through fundraiser on Saturday, Nov. 21. Pull up to the old Sears parking lot (45495 Luckakuck Way) between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. and volunteers will collect the items.

Used items are to be freshly washed before dropping them off, and people are asked to wear a face mask. All items will be washed again before being delivered to those in need.

Additionally, they will also be collecting non-perishable food items for the Salvation Army community food bank.
