Sasquatch Mountain Resort may be a few weeks out from its official opening, but excitement is ramping up now that some snow has hit the mountain.
A Facebook post showing snowfall on the resort was viewed nearly 10,000 times within a day of being posted.
“It started coming late yesterday afternoon and continued all through the night,” Shelby Lim, the resort’s director of sales, marketing and business development, told the Observer on Friday afternoon. “It’s still snowing up here right now!”
The bottom of the hill only had a few inches, but Lim said there was about 33 centimetres at the top.
She said the Sasquatch team is anticipating a good season.
“In order for us to open we usually need about 100 centimetres, but we’ve done a lot of clearing this year that will allow us to open with less,” she explained.
Mountain operations director Randy Murphy said there may be heavy snowfall in the hill’s future.
“If the models are accurate, this year we’ll see a lot more high pressure ridges which will bring a lot more drier, warmer air,” he explained. “But once those break down, the expectation is for heavy snow fall.”
Sasquatch Mountain’s projected opening date is Dec. 15, but of course, that’s snow-dependent.
“So as long as we have the snow, that’s when we’ll be opening up,” Lim said. “If its marginal snow conditions it could be limited operations but we make every effort to be open as much as we can, as early as we can.”
